Lee Roy Selmon's life is one of football scholarship, family work and community involvement. Selmon is the youngest of children of Lucious Selmon, and Jessie Selmon. They raised him on the family farm near Eufala. He played second in football and was one of three brothers who were players for Oklahoma. All three made All-America. The year 1973 was the first time Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the players for one season. Lee Roy received the Outland and Lombardi Awards for being the most effective lineman in the USA. In the three years that Roy was a starter, Oklahoma won two National Championships. The National Football Foundation named him an Scholar-Athlete for the 3rd time in the year 1975. Selmon obtained his degree in education. Lee Roy dedicated ten volunteer times a week in college. After graduating, Lee Roy settled in Tampa where he spent nine years playing for the Buccaneers. There were three times, he was selected All-Pro. He began his business career. In 1988, while working as an account liaison officer for First Florida Bank of Tampa He was a member of the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. The Junior Chamber of Commerce honored his name in 1982, as among the top 10 young men of the United States. Lee Roy stood 6-2 in the height department and weighed 256 lbs as a college player he played for the team of 1975. In 1993, he was a part of his current position at University of South Florida as associate director of athletics. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988 the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. The Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 awarded the Distinguished American Award to his parents Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor who presented this award.
